Clinical Services (Bone Marrow Failure Program):
Symptoms
Bone marrow failure symptoms vary depending on which blood cells are most affected. Too few red blood cells cause symptoms of anemia - fatigue, pale skin and shortness of breath. Insufficient white cells make the body vulnerable to infection and may be associated with fevers and chronic or recurrent infections. Platelets are responsible for clotting the blood, so diminished platelet counts can lead to bruising and bleeding.
