Nuclear medicine imaging shows blood flow, functional, and metabolic activity within organs and lesions, revealing ways in which disease alters the normal function of an organ. This non-invasive imaging technology, which does not produce adverse effects or allergic reactions, allows early diagnosis of disease and can often make invasive procedures unnecessary. There are some applicatons that are used for treatment. Nuclear medicine plays an important role in medical research and molecular imaging.

Our three nuclear medicine physicians, our technologists, and physicists oversee more than 7,000 procedures each year in a safe, comfortable and child-friendly atmosphere. Our state-of-the-art equipment includes New England's only positron emission tomography (PET) scanner dedicated to pediatric use. Our nurses and technologists are trained in nuclear medicine procedures; our child life specialists are available to you and your child before, during, and after the visit.
