The Division of Nuclear Medicine is committed to providing the best in diagnostic imaging and treatment for our young patients. We have unique, child-friendly facilities that provide a safe and comfortable environment for patients and their families. In addition to state-of-the art equipment, we have the only positron emission tomography (PET) scanner in New England that is exclusively dedicated to children. Our team of nuclear medicine physicians, technologists and nurses is devoted to meeting the special imaging needs of children, adolescents and young adults.

- Our physicians are certified by the American Board of Nuclear Medicine, and they teach in Harvard Medical School's Joint Program in Nuclear Medicine, the country's largest nuclear-medicine residency training program.
- Our nuclear medicine technologists are certified by the Nuclear Medicine Technologist Certification Board (NMTCB), registered with the American Registry of Radiological Technologists (ARRT), or both. All technologists are licensed by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health Radiation Control Program. In addition to training in all aspects of nuclear medicine, our technologists have special expertise in pediatric nuclear medicine.
- The division is staffed with highly skilled nurses and nurse-practitioners who specialize in imaging, pediatrics, and sedation. They are supported, when necessary, by pediatric anesthesiologists from the hospital's Department of Anesthesia.
- Our nuclear medicine scientists include a medical physicist and a radiochemist. Our physicist, Frederic H. Fahey, D.Sc., is certified in medical nuclear physics by the American Board of Radiology. He assists with the engineering and radiation-protection aspects of nuclear medicine while helping to implement new protocols and procedures. The radiochemist, Alan B. Packard, Ph.D., is actively engaged in the development of new radiopharmaceuticals and assists our nuclear medicine physicians in developing protocols to bring newly developed radiopharmaceuticals into the clinic.
