Fellowship Program Structure

Paul Farmer Global Surgery Fellows are hosted by Boston Children’s Hospital and conduct their work with Partners In Health and affiliates from other Harvard hospitals (Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Massachusetts General Hospital, Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital) under the umbrella of the Program in Global Surgery and Social Change.

The purpose of the Fellowship is to train leaders who will further promote surgical care, education, and research pertinent to global surgery. Fellows will also develop academic, clinical, and administrative skills in global surgery, public health, surgical systems development, and humanitarian aid. Throughout the course of the Fellowship, there will be a focus on developing a skill set necessary to improve surgical care delivery in resource-poor settings.

The Paul Farmer Global Surgery Fellowship offers two educational and training tracks, a Clinical Track and a Research Track. The Clinical Track focuses on clinical care provision through service and training and candidates are required to have already completed their surgical residency. The Research Track focuses on global health research and is designed for those who are taking time away from their residency, and completion of surgical training is not required
