Clinical Services (Dentistry):
New Patients
Image The Department of Dentistry accepts new patients for routine care who are age 14 and younger. Any new patient age 15 and older is encouraged to seek routine care from a dentist who specializes in adult dentistry.

Exceptions
Exceptions to the above criteria may be made in the following circumstances:
  • A child with a serious medical condition that makes delivery of care difficult in a traditional dental office setting (such as, leukemia, congenital heart disease, bleeding disorder, craniofacial anomaly, cleft lip and palate)

  • A child with behavior management problems who cannot be treated by a dentist in the local community and who requires sedation, general anesthesia or specialty care. A dentist or physician must refer these patients to us. They can do this by submitting a completed Treatment referral form to our office.

  • A child who requires specialized interpretive services only available at Children's Hospital Boston.

Note:
Patients age 18 and older may continue to receive specialty care (such as, orthodontics, endodontics, prosthetics, periodontics, oral/maxillofacial surgery) through the completion of their treatment. Other exceptions may apply. Each patient must be referred by a dentist or physician. The referral will be considered on a case-by-case basis by the Dentist-in-Chief to establish need and urgency.
