Flower Craniofacial/Cleft Orthodontic Fellowship
Note: The position is not available until September 2009.
Purpose
To educate and train an orthodontist in the management and treatment of the cleft lip & palate patient; the management and treatment of the craniofacial patient; the management and treatment of patients with facial differences. To expose the orthodontist to the cleft palate/craniofacial team and to give her/him the experience and training in team treatment coordination. To provide the educational insight to manage patients with facial differences, and to provide the perspective of the public health aspects of team priorities. To train experts in the management and treatment of patients with facial differences so as to provide expertise to remote communities. If background training includes hospital protocols and experience, fellow will be trained in the use of pre-surgical fixed orthopedic treatment of cleft infants.
Requirements for Acceptance
A degree in Dentistry from an accredited American or Foreign Dental School, and a certificate or advanced degree in Orthodontics. Dual training in Pediatric Dentistry is desirable.

Course Requirements
Graduate level course in associated area such as genetics, embryology, or other as agreed.

Research
Development of a hypothesis in a clinical area related to craniofacial anomalies leading to the publication of a paper at the Master's degree level. The fellow will be expected to participate in ongoing research projects. For example, long-term outcomes of facial growth, applications of anthropometry and 3-dimensional photogrammetry.
