- A child with a serious medical condition that makes delivery of care difficult in a traditional dental office setting (such as, leukemia, congenital heart disease, bleeding disorder, craniofacial anomaly, cleft lip and palate)
- A child with behavior management problems who cannot be treated by a dentist in the local community and who requires sedation, general anesthesia or specialty care. A dentist or physician must refer these patients to us. They can do this by submitting a completed Treatment referral form to our office.
- A child who requires specialized interpretive services only available at Children's Hospital Boston.
Note:
Patients age 18 and older may continue to receive specialty care (such as, orthodontics, endodontics, prosthetics, periodontics, oral/maxillofacial surgery) through the completion of their treatment. Other exceptions may apply. Each patient must be referred by a dentist or physician. The referral will be considered on a case-by-case basis by the Dentist-in-Chief to establish need and urgency.
