Children's Hospital Boston has 18 operating rooms. More than 10,000 surgeries are performed each year in the Main Operating Rooms at Children's Hospital Boston. Services encompasses all of the surgical subspecialties, including:
|
|
- cranial-facial reconstruction and other plastic surgery procedures;
- major urogenital reconstruction;
- organ transplantation (kidney, liver, lung, and bowel);
- neonatal emergencies;
- orthopaedics (including major spine surgery);
- otolaryngology;
- neurosurgery (including awake craniotomies);
- ophthalmology;
- gynecology;
- and dental procedures.

An additional 5,000 cases are performed each year in the Ambulatory Surgery Program, providing an opportunity for experience in shorter cases with rapid turnaround. Another 1,500 cases in non-surgical settings (e.g., radiation therapy, angiography, computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, etc.) provide valuable experience in conscious sedation as well as general anesthesia. Finally, there is a freestanding Pediatric Ambulatory Surgical Unit at Children's Hospital at Lexington.
