Image Asthma is one of the most common childhood diseases and a leading cause of hospitalization, including at Children's Hospital Boston.

If your child has asthma and is a patient of the Children's Hospital Primary Care Center, the Asthma Action Team is here to assist you in managing your child's health.

Our goal is to help children with asthma lead healthy and active lives and decrease the need for hospitalization or missed days at school through education and successful asthma management.

Our services
Our clinic provides:
  • asthma assessments
  • education on asthma and environmental triggers
  • training on administering medication and monitoring asthma
  • answers to your asthma questions and support for concerns you may have
  • coordinated care with your child's primary care provider, nurse practitioner, and nursing team at Children's Primary Care Center. All nurses of the Primary Care Center have received asthma-education training.
In addition, the Asthma Action team works closely with other healthcare groups in the community and within Children's, including the Boston Asthma Initiative, the Boston Urban Asthma Coalition, the Boston Public Health Commission and Children Hospital's Community Asthma Initiative.
What's New
Coming soon: Free Stop-Smoking Program
Environmental exposure to secondhand smoke is a known risk factor for asthma in children and can also lead to greater frequency and severity of asthma attacks.

The Asthma Action Team recently received a grant from Children's Community Child Health Fund to offer a free smoking-cessation program this summer for our Primary Care Center parents. The program is based on the American Lung Association's Freedom from Smoking® program.

To register or find out more information about the smoking-cessation program, please contact Linda Haynes, MS, PNP-BC, at 617-355-3485.
