Pain Treatment Services
The Children's Hospital Boston offers a one year Pediatric Pain Medicine Fellowship that provides excellent multidisciplinary training in both adult and pediatric pain medicine. This unique fellowship combines training in Anesthesiology, Physiatry, Neurology, and Psychology and is the only ACGME accredited pediatric pain medicine fellowship in the US.
The fellowship is approved by the American Board of Anesthesiology and accredited by the ACGME to fulfill the requirements for eligibility for the Certificate of Special Qualifications in Pain Management.
Fellows will spend six months of the fellowship year at Children’s Hospital Boston Pain Treatment Service learning the care of acute, chronic, and cancer pain in infants and children. During the six months at Children’s Hospital Boston, fellows will gain experience in the outpatient Pediatric Chronic Pain Clinic, the Acute Pain Service, the Pediatric Headache Clinic, and the Mayo Family Pediatric Pain Rehabilitation Center. In addition, fellows will have rotations in palliative care, psychiatry, physiatry and regional blocks. Fellows will then rotate for 3 months each to the adult pain medicine centers of the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) and the Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH). The BIDMC and the BWH have renowned training programs in adult pain medicine and provide diverse and complimentary training for fellows.
Clinically based or laboratory research opportunities are also available. Funded positions are available for an additional three-six months of training after the required one year fellowship.
