During Your Child's Exam
During your visit, your child will meet with many specialists. First, you will meet with one of our nurses who will review your child's medical history and answer any questions you might have.
Team Visit
In order to provide a comprehensive evaluation of your child's needs during one appointment, you and your child will meet with the Craniofacial Anomalies team all at once. The focus of this team visit is to evaluate your child's physical problems, discuss treatment options and answer any questions you might have.
Team members who may be present at this meeting include:
- Audiologist
- Dentist
- Genetic counselor
- Neurosurgeon
- Nurse
- Oral and maxillofacial surgeon
- Plastic surgeon
- Speech and language pathologist
During the meeting, team members will look at your child's skull, facial bones and teeth. Specialists may also check your child's hearing and speech.
Referrals to other specialists or specialty clinics within Children's may be made at this meeting. Tests such as a CT scan, MRI or ultrasound may be scheduled as well.
Because Children's is a teaching hospital, one of our missions is to educate and train future doctors and nurses. Please be aware that residents and medical students may be present at the team visit, and we may use your child's condition as a teaching tool. We appreciate your cooperation and understanding.
Length of Your Visit
For new patients, the first visit typically lasts about 2 hours. Return visits are usually shorter than this.
Follow-up appointments
Our clinic coordinator, Elizabeth Leonard, will help schedule any follow-up appointments you may need.
