Flower Child Protection Team
Kids The Child Protection Team at Children's Hospital Boston is a team of Children's consultants available 24 hours to consult on child abuse and neglect.

When a child who may be abused or neglected is admitted to Children's for medical or social reasons (most often through the Emergency Department), members of our team work with her.

We coordinate efforts with Children's social workers, medical staff and other clinical caregivers. We also help create a safe discharge plan, often working together with the Massachusetts Department of Social Services (DSS).

Team availability

Members of our team are available 24 hours a day to consult with Children's staff about protective issues concerning their patients.

Consultation may include:

  • providing staff with specific clinical and legal information
  • guiding staff when they file a mandated 51A report
  • tracking cases
  • making sure the best efforts are made for child protection and safety
To maintain uniform and effective practice standards, and to comply with Massachusetts law, Children's requires our team to be consulted on all cases in which a 51A report is anticipated or filed.
