The clinicians in the Autism Language Program (ALP) have a strong commitment to the education of students in the communication science and disorders field, teaching courses at the master's level and supervising interns in the clinical setting.

Howard C. Shane, PhD is a Professor in Communication Science and Disorders at the MGH Institute of Health Professions, where he teaches the following courses for master's degree candidates:

  • Autism (40 students per year)
  • Motor Speech Disorders
  • Augmentative And Alternative Communication
Dr. Shane's commitment to the training of graduate students includes:
  • supervision of 4-6 interns a year, with a primary focus on children on the autism spectrum
  • student involvement in clinical evaluations and therapy
  • supervision of graduate projects on autism
Over 100 interns have trained in the ALP, providing them a unique opportunity and a distinct benefit of practical experience with children on the autism spectrum.
