Boston Public Schools
Boston, Massachusetts

In 2006, in collaboration with the Boston Public Schools, Howard C. Shane, PhD, was asked to assist in the creation of an innovative pilot program for adolescents with autism. Ultimately, this creative educational program will implement best practices, including methods learned from the Monarch School experience, for the City of Boston.

A great deal of the clinical work conducted in the Autism Language Program in regard to Observation Learning, Two-way Observational Learning, and visual supports will be implemented in this program.

Other innovative strategies to be used in the program will include:

  • tablet computer for each student
  • Integration of effective technology throughout the educational curriculum
  • continuous monitoring of what goes on in the classroom to help analyze and improve inappropriate behavior
  • frequent opportunities for ongoing observational learning
  • orientation of Puddingstone Place, and other innovative software approaches developed by the ALP team
