Testimonials
"[The CHNP] has been invaluable to us. I cannot begin to express our need here in words.

We work with the most underprivileged and poverty-stricken students. For many, our schools are the most stable environment they have. [The CHNP] has saved many from simply giving up, dropping out of school or perhaps even from seriously hurting themselves or worse."

- Ellen Nikas, Student Support Coordinator
South Boston Education Complex

"Our school, John Marshall Elementary, is helped tremendously by... the Children's Hospital Neighborhood Partnerships (CHNP).

Community violence, financial difficulties, medical illness and loss of family structure represent challenges for many our students and families. With our CHNP clinician on site two days a week, we have been able to expand exponentially... We are able to connect with more students than ever before. Our focus has shifted to the immediate mental health needs of our students, rather than waiting for health insurance approvals."

- Teresa Harvey-Jackson, Principal
- Margaret Hendrick, MA LMHC, Student Support Coordinator,
John Marshall School

"Since joining the CHNP, we have been provided with two seasoned clinicians for a total of 20 hours each week for the past three years. It would be hard for me to adequately convey in words all the benefits of this resource.

Our students run the gamut of academic, ethnic, economic, artistic and social/emotional characteristics. They have a wide range of needs and we stretch ourselves daily to serve them. If we did not have the CHNP, we would be significantly deficit in our attempts to respond to our students at the level at which they need our support."

- Peter McCaffery, Director of Student Support Services
Boston Arts Academy

"I need the help and support of strong and dedicated partners like the Children's Hospital Neighborhood Partnerships.

As a result of all the interventions that have taken place, we have become more knowledgeable and deliberate in dealing with crises, the number of crises and we have been able to provide more group support. We are now reaching more students than ever before.

In addition, the support provided to my staff by the CHNP's clinicians has been extremely powerful. This support has helped create a wonderful, supportive and nurturing environment for both staff and students. Students perform better and are available for learning. Their work with the Student Support Team, our in-house system for addressing students' needs, has also been invaluable."

- Lourdes Santiago, Principal
Charles Sumner School

"For the past two years, the CHNP has been an active partner in supporting the enormous needs of the students at English High School. Through this partnership, the CHNP has provided a comprehensive approach to reaching at-risk students and their families. Many of our students are chronically underserved and have limited access to health care providers. The clinicians from the CHNP address not only the mental health issues, but are also strong advocates for the medical, social and academic needs of these students.

Our joint programs have even received outside attention. One of the groups started by an intern was mentioned in Newsweek Magazine, while another intern presented the group she facilitated (focused on increasing the self-esteem of Latino girls) at the Massachusetts School Psychology Association conference and won first prize for her work. Other powerful groups include targeting baseball aficionados who didn't have high enough grades to qualify to play on the school team. By focusing on study skills in their group work, students were able to raise their GPAs, allowing six of the eight group members to be eligible to play on the team.

In my personal observations, the CHNP's presence at English High School has been a Godsend. CHNP members expand student's expectations for themselves and their future. The administration of English High School applauds the efforts of the CHNP..."
