DCA Protocol
The dichloroacetate (DCA) protocol has been approved for use in patients with high blood lactate levels. DCA has been proven to reduce blood and CSF lactate levels and improve clinical symptoms in some patients with lactic acidosis secondary to mitochondrial disease.
For the initiation of the DCA treatment selected patients will be admitted to the CRC (Clinical Research Center) at Children's Hospital Boston, where most patients will spend two to three days.
All patients who take DCA will be closely followed by Basil Darras, MD and Ingrid Anselm, MD and will undergo nerve conduction studies regularly.
