The Clinical Neurophysiology Laboratory (CNL) at Children's Hospital Boston evaluates children of all ages and functional ability - ranging from the fragile premature infant, to the behaviorally difficult child, to the highly functioning adolescent.
Performing approximately 5,000 evaluations each year, Children's CNL is the most experienced pediatric neurophysiological facility in the world. Having pioneered pediatric polysomnography and clinical qEEG, Children's offers the most state-of-the-art neurological examination techniques, including:
- Complete seizure history
- Comprehensive neurological examination
- Neurophysiological tests (EEG, video EEGs, drug-activated EEGs, WADA testing)
- Polysomnography (sleep EEG)
- Electromyography (EMG) and Nerve Conduction Velocity (NCV)
- Evoked Potentials (EPs) testing (e.g., auditory, visual and somatosensory)
- Quantitative EEG (qEEG or BEAM)
- Presurgical evaluation for epilepsy surgery
Long-Term Monitoring (LTM) staff of a 6-bed seizure unit on 9-North are dedicated to continuous monitoring of the EEG and behavioral activity (using video technology) of children suspected to have epilepsy.
