Children's Hospital Boston is thrilled to announce that it has been awarded Magnet status, an exclusive designation developed by the American Nurses Credentialing Center to recognize health care organizations that exemplify nursing excellence.
Having Magnet status underscores the fact that Children's has a world-class nursing organization that provides quality patient care and nursing excellence and produces innovations that improve professional nursing practice. It also provides consumers with the ultimate benchmark to measure the quality of care that they can expect to receive.
Since the designation's establishment 20 years ago, studies have shown that Magnet hospitals have better patient outcomes than non-Magnet hospitals. Currently, there are about 275 Magnet-certified hospitals nation-wide - which is less than 5 percent of hospitals - and only six in all of Massachusetts.
