Established in 1903, the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at Children's Hospital Boston is one of the first comprehensive, interdisciplinary programs in the nation for the care of children and young adults with a wide range of developmental, congenital, neuromuscular and post traumatic conditions of the musculoskeletal system.

With over 87,000 outpatient visits and 5,000 surgical procedures per year Children's Department of Orthopedic Surgery leads the nation in the care and treatment of children and young adults with a wide variety of orthopedic conditions.

Our orthopedic team includes:
  • 24 orthopedic surgeons
  • 4 certified physician assistants
  • 13 RN's and nurse practitioners
  • 5 full time basic scientists and over 10 clinical investigators
  • physical and occupational therapists
  • plaster room technicians

Clinical programs within the Department of Orthopedic Surgery include:
Adolescent and Young Adult Hip Program
Offering internationally recognized expertise for treating disorders in the nearly mature and young mature hip (age 15 and over).

Bone and Soft Tissue Tumor Program
Combining the expertise of Children's Hospital Boston and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute to provide medical and surgical care for children and adolescents with benign or malignant bone and soft tissue tumors.

Brachial Plexus Program
Providing comprehensive care for children with acute and chronic brachial plexus palsies.

Cerebral Palsy Program
Provides interdisciplinary, state-of-the-art evaluation and treatment of children with a variety of neuromuscular conditions including static encephalopathy, progressive neuromuscular conditions and congenital anomalies.

Lower Extremity Program
Offers comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, non-operative and operative management of complex disorders of the lower extremities.

Hand and Upper Extremity Program
Provides outstanding comprehensive care to infants, children and young adults with a wide range of congenital, neuromuscular, sports related, traumatic and post-traumatic hand and upper extremity problems.
Myelodysplasia Program
One of the oldest and largest comprehensive, interdisciplinary centers for the care of children with spina bifida in the country. Scheduling: 617-355-7641

Orthopedic Trauma Program
The Orthopedic Surgery Department works closely with the Trauma Program to provide coordinated care for children with musculoskeletal injuries.

Skeletal Growth Disorders Program
Provides and interdisciplinary approach to the medical and surgical management and care of children and young adults with skeletal growth disorders.

Spinal Program
Provides diagnosis, non-operative and surgical treatment of complex and routine spinal deformities and conditions.

Sports Medicine
Provides comprehensive assessment, treatment and follow-up care to children, adolescents and young adults with sports-related orthopedic injuries. Scheduling: 617-355-3501
