Casting clubfoot Established in 1903, the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at Children's Hospital Boston, is one of the first comprehensive, interdisciplinary programs for the treatment of children with musculoskeletal conditions.

Ranked second in the nation for pediatric orthopedic care in Child magazine's 2007 survey, our team offers comprehensive care for a wide variety of congenital and acquired disorders including:

A full range of associated services is offered, including physical and occupational medicine, sports medicine and orthotic and prosthetic devices.
Our Team
Children's is the primary pediatric teaching hospital of Harvard Medical School where our physicians hold faculty appointments. We are the largest pediatric orthopedic department in the nation, with ten specialty clinics, an onsite brace shop, plaster room, and a clinical team that includes:
  • 21 orthopedic surgeons
  • 11 orthopedic residents and fellows
  • A nursing staff comprised of 6 nurse practitioners and 5 RN's
  • Full team of physical/occupation therapists, brace and cast technicians

Highlights include:

  • Advanced techniques of fracture and microsurgery care for complex fractures, and soft tissue injuries to the hand and upper extremity
  • Innovative advances in our Spinal Program such as video assisted thorascopic surgery.
  • The oldest and largest comprehensive center for the care of spina bifida.
  • An Adolescent Hip Program that has performed over 7,000 periacetabular osteotomies.
  • One of the first scoliosis and sports medicine clinics in the nation
  • One of the first centers in the nation to use adjuvant chemotherapy, and perform limb salvage surgery for patients with osteosarcoma.

In addition to the full range of services offered at our Boston campus, we offer outstanding orthopedic care at several locations throughout eastern Massachusetts.
