About our Dance Medicine Section

Ballet dancers

Dance is a complex physical commitment that requires holistic treatment of the musculoskeletal system. For the last three decades, experts in Boston Children's Hospital’s Division of Sports Medicine have been dedicated to caring for dancers of all ages and levels of competition by evaluating nutrition, bone and endocrine health, podiatry (foot care) and sports psychology. Our mission is to provide comprehensive, multidisciplinary, world-class care to all of our dancers.

Boston Children’s expert, Lyle J. Micheli, MD, is the medical director of the Boston Ballet, and competitive dancers choose Boston Children’s because our staff, led by Andrea Stracciolini, MD, specializes in the unique discipline of dance biomechanics, flexibility, strength deficits, injury prevention and point readiness. Young dancers and professional dancers alike can expect full evaluation, diagnostics and treatment of all injuries at Boston Children’s Dance Medicine Section.
