Young patients at Children’s Hospital Boston got a big and red
surprise when Clifford the Big Red Dog visited them March 1, along
with the author of the Clifford book series, Norman Bridwell. In
a rare public appearance, Bridwell, 76, from Edgartown, Mass., spoke
to the audience and read one of his books to the children and handed
out free, autographed copies of his classic tale.
The event celebrated a $500,000 gift from Kohl’s Department Stores,
which raises funds for children’s hospitals across the country through
it’s Kohl’s Cares for Kids program. To help support the program,
Kohl’s stores in Massachusetts will sell books from the Clifford
the Big Red Dog series, as well as plush characters from the book.
Each item will be sold for $5 with 100 percent of the net profits
from the Massachusetts stores’ sales going to Children’s Hospital
Boston.
