Supporting a scholar

"Children's really shows that they care about my success," says Sarah Weintraub, 27, who recently won one of Children's Hospital Boston's Sibylla Orth Young Scholarships. The annual scholarships give Children's staff, as well as their families, the chance to further their education by taking classes in the health care field. Weintraub, who's worked as a clinical assistant in the Emergency Department for three years, has already put hers to use. She's upped her nursing school hours from part-time to full-time, while continuing to work at Children's 20 hours a week. "When I graduate, I want to work here as a nurse, caring for the children whom I've learned to love and respect so much," she says. Her other goal is more personal: Weintraub's uncle had Parkinson's disease and she wants to participate in stem cell research in an effort to discover a cure. "Thanks to scholarships like this, my goals can sooner become a reality," she says.
