According to Foxboro YMCA staffer Erin Burke, residents of Children's Hospital Boston's Devon Nicole House were "wide-eyed" the first time Burke and her YMCA crew brought the house's residents enough home-cooked food to feed a small army. Burke helped groups of teen YMCA members start the mini meals on wheels program this past summer, and it's still going strong. Each week, teens at four YMCA branches take turns brainstorming recipes, grocery shopping and then testing their culinary skills to create fun and fancy meals for families staying at Children's communal housing facility. "We're all happy to do it," says Foxboro YMCA Teen Leaders Club member John Kirber, who's cooked several dinners since joining the program. Dianne Arnold, MSN, RN, YMCA member and Center for Families employee, is happy to help, too: She delivers the meals Monday mornings on her way to work. Arnold says, "It's a win-win situation. The teens at the Y have the opportunity to work together and create a meal for a family with a child who's sick. And the families can enjoy a home-cooked meal in their time of need."
