Gratitudes
This letter was sent to Children's Hospital Boston's Department of Neurosurgery.
To Whom It May Concern:
I am writing to thank and compliment all of your staff for their help and sensitivity during my son's time on the Neurosurgery floor.
Sam, who is 10 months old, was admitted around 3 a.m. on June 13 from the ER. The nurse assigned to him, a male nurse whose name I unfortunately don't recall given the stressful circumstance, was very kind in getting Sam and me settled into crib and bed, respectively. It was clear you are focused on making the child feel as comfortable as possible.
Your nurse also worked to make me comfortable. Once he was aware that I am an Orthodox Jew and that it was a holy day, he indicated he knew there were some things I would be unable to do because of the holy day—using electric switches and the phone. Also, he was aware that there would be an issue with my obtaining kosher food. He helped me by placing phone calls, so I could get news to my husband—where I was and what was going on—setting lights at a comfortable level and asking my roommates not to turn off the bathroom light. Finally, he introduced me to the Orthodox woman in the next room, who expected to be at the hospital and had kosher food she was willing to share.
I was astounded that your staff was so "multi-culturally aware" and willing to help out. It certainly made Sam's stay—a stressful event in and of itself’Äîa lot easier on me and my family.
Yours,
Jennifer Gordon
