Children's explores partnering with Floating

hildren's Hospital Boston announced last month that it had entered into an exclusive agreement with Tufts-New England Medical Center's Floating Hospital to negotiate the creation of an innovative maternal/pediatric partnership. The announcement was the result of months of discussions.

"Our goal is to create a patient-centered care network of outstanding clinical excellence, depth and breadth," says Chief Operating Officer Sandra Fenwick. "We are seeking to preserve and enhance our roles as a teaching hospital, provider of vital services to Boston's children, and leader in clinical and basic research."

The affiliation would include integration of specialty programs, but those arrangements have yet to be agreed upon. During the next phase of talks, the hospitals will determine a number of factors, like which programs will be integrated, where they will be located and the structural design of the partnership.
"We have a unique opportunity with Floating Hospital to build one of the premier maternal/pediatric health care networks in the country, and increase patient access, reduce cost and improve the quality of pediatric services," says James Mandell, MD, president and CEO. "They have a reputation for high quality, compassionate care and a devoted clinical staff."
