For the kids
Harry Neff (pictured) and his family recently raised close to $6,000 for Children's Hospital Boston in celebration of his Bar Mitvah. The Neff's presented their donation to Child Life Services, who helped the family pick out balloons and stickers to be given to children in the hospital over the coming year.
Taking a tour
Bongi Mkhabele and Sylvester Haanyama of the Nelson Mandela Children's Fund, and
Robert Curvin of ELMA Philanthropies, recently visited Children's Hospital Boston, taking a tour of several of the hospital's inpatient floors and meeting with hospital leadership.
Honoring a friend
Victoria Burns recently donated a gift basket to Children's Hospital Boston's Diabetes Program in honor of one of her friends, who has diabetes. The Diabetes Program will be raffling off the basket at the upcoming American Diabetes Association Expo in March 2006, with the proceeds going to a fund that has been set up to send under-privileged children to diabetes camp.
Walking for food allergies
Lynda Schneider, MD, director of Children's Hospital Boston's Allergy Program, recently participated in a 3-mile walk for food allergies at Borderland State Park in Sharon, Mass. Schneider spoke at the event and was honored for her dedication to children with food allergies. The walk was organized by the Food Allergy and Anaphylaxis Network to raise public awareness and provide education on food allergies.
Cheering on the Red Sox
For the past five years, Kelly Connelly, RN, a nurse in Children's Hospital Boston's PACU, has organized fun-filled nights at Fenway Park for the PACU team, obtaining more than 100 tickets for two Red Sox games this year alone. One of the games was nearly a rain-out this year, but the team still had a great time and the Sox won.
