Two from Children's join the Institute of Medicine
On October 9, the prestigious national Institute of Medicine (IOM) announced the election of 65 new members, including two Children's Hospital Boston staff: worldwide expert on iron deficiency and iron overload disorders, Nancy Andrews, MD, PhD, in the Division of Hematology/Oncology, and Gary Fleisher, MD, pediatrician-in-chief and chair of the Department of Medicine.
The IOM is known for its in-depth analyses of health issues and influential reports, including the groundbreaking patient safety report To Err Is Human. This is the second consecutive year that Children's faculty members have been elected to the IOM. Last year Leonard Zon, MD, director of Children's Stem Cell/Developmental Biology Program, received the honor.
