Gratitudes
The following is an excerpt of a letter submitted to Children's Hospital Boston's Center for Families.
To Whom It May Concern:
I would like to express how impressed I am with your hospital. My 10-year-old daughter will be coming to Children's for knee surgery on both knees. Mininder Kocher, MD [from Orthopedic Surgery], who is absolutely wonderful, will be performing her surgery.
Yesterday, my daughter Micayla had an appointment with Laurie Ohlms, MD [from Otolaryngology], in the Peabody Office. She has been treating Micayla for the past six or so years, for ear problems. To make a long story short, at yesterday's appointment, Dr. Ohlms was reading Micayla's chart and noticed that she was scheduled for pre-surgery testing on September 12. She asked me what surgery Micayla was having and who was doing the work, and I explained that Dr. Kocher was doing her surgery.
Micayla has always had ear problems and still has a hole in her eardrum that will require surgery to close. Dr. Ohlms talked to Dr. Kocher to see if she could put a "patch" in Micayla's ear drum on the same day as her knee surgery, so she will not need yet another surgery or be put under anesthesia again.
Not only was I impressed with the paperwork being up to date for all Children's doctors to have at their fingertips, but I found it astounding that Dr. Ohlms would even consider doing this, taking my daughter's welfare and health into consideration. I have been telling everyone I know how wonderful Children's is. It's nice to know that "important" information like this is put on the patients' charts for any physicians to access.
I want to thank you for sharing important patient information between doctors, and most of all, for hiring not only the best, but the most kind and caring physicians.
Sincerely,
Judy Freehan
