Dear Dr. Mandell,

Brooke, left, with her sister, Kaitlyn

My daughter recently had an overnight stay at the hospital and I wanted to let you know about some of the care we especially appreciated.

The medical care we received was good and the nurses were excellent. But what truly made my daughter, Brooke's stay more bearable were the volunteers who provided the "extras." My daughter was still feeling extremely sick when the volunteer magician came into the Emergency Department. He enthralled her and perked her up. And when we were on the floor, the volunteers who brought in paint supplies, crafts and movies to our room took their time with my daughter and cheered her up.

The child-friendly services and entertainment made our hospital stay less scary and more bearable—important things when caring for young children.

Regards,
Denise DeLucia
