Angela Franceschi

The following letter was sent to Myra Fox, director of Child Life Services.

Dear Myra,

I'm a radiologist who has the pleasure of working with Child Life Specialist Angela Franceschi. She is a bright, energetic, intuitive woman who interacts beautifully with patients, their families and the entire staff in Radiology. Her personalized family phone calls, warm greetings and helpful techniques during examinations have helped countless patients and their families cope with difficult examinations. Many parents have complimented Angela directly, or to me.

I'm grateful to Angela because she concentrates on the mental well-being of the children and their families so that I can perform the examination and interpret the results. She has also taught me, our staff and the trainees many of her valuable techniques in helping children manage difficult examinations.

She is an innovator who is currently writing a paper on the role of Child Life specialists in Uroradiology, specifically as an alternative to sedation. Currently, many institutions are considering or using sedation for voiding cystourethrograms. With Angela's help, we avoid sedation except for very rare occasions. For those patients who do require sedation, she works with the families and coordinates their care.

Angela is doing a fantastic job in our department. She is a true champion of the patient, and has taught us all how to improve our own care to patients.
