Children's comes in 2nd in nation

Children's Hospital Boston has again been listed as one of the top pediatric hospitals in the country, according to U.S.News & World Report. Children's is ranked second nationally and remains the number one pediatric hospital in New England. Since the magazine began ranking hospitals 18 years ago, Children's has either been the first or second best pediatric hospital in the country.

This year, the rankings in the Sept. 3 "America's Best Hospitals" issue weren't based on reputation alone, but also on data about hospital performance and quality of care. The new methodology weighed a three-part mix of reputation, death rate and such care-related factors as volume, nursing care, advanced technology and recognition by outside organizations. For the first time, U.S.News & World Report also included rankings on specific procedures in cardiovascular surgery and cancer treatment.
