McManus’ director, John Quinn, agrees: “Judy’s productivity, quality of work, and job commitment have all been positively effected by Telework.” Since Children’s officially launched its Telework Program in December, a growing number of home-based employees and their supervisors have found that the program increases employee productivity and job satisfaction. Of course, improvements in productivity are not the only benefit of the program. For McManus, the absence of a commute means more time to spend with her three children. “Every time I work from home, that’s two hours I don’t have to spend in traffic,” she says. Although working from home (and managing employees who work from home) requires a new set of skills, employees and managers interested in the program are supported throughout the process by telework coordinator Liza DiCosimo. Periodic program reviews ensure that the program continues to benefit the hospital and employees.
