Falmouth road race recap...
At the Cigna Falmouth Road Race August 12, 52 runners in Team Falmouth—including five Children's employees—ran as part of the hospital's Miles for Miracles program, raising funds for our patients. The team has raised more than $71,000 to date, dashing past this year's $50,000 goal and ensuring their miles will mean miracles for Children's patients. Make your miles worthwhile for Children's—we have spots for many fall marathons. Visit www.childrenshospitalboston.org/run for more details.

Mayor on the Midweek Morning Show...
Mayor Menino made an appearance on the Midweek Morning Show on August 8. He talked about the Red Sox, what a "typical day" for the mayor is like, and reminded patients that they can achieve anything if they work hard. He also discussed the important role Children's plays in Boston. The COACH interns (pictured above with the mayor) attended to learn more about the creative ways the Child Life department supports patients and families.

Back to School with Arthur the Aardvark...
On August 17, at a "Pack 2 School" event sponsored by Shaw's supermarkets, Marc Brown gave a private reading of his Arthur the Aardvark books, and Children's patients made up a portion of the audience. Seven Children's volunteers were on hand to help stuff 10,000 backpacks with back-to-school gear (including a Children's light-up bicycle reflector) for needy children throughout Boston.

Lassoing Lunch...
On August 1 employees became "Cowboys from Around the World" at the annual employee BBQ. The cafe was transformed into a corale of cowboy hats, country music, and western decorations. The event included cowboy trivia and live flamenco and tango guitarists.
