Gratitudes
The following letter was sent to Joseph Wolfsdorf, MD, MB, BCh, associate in Endocrinology.
Dear Dr. Wolfsdorf,
My name is Linda Darling and I'm a single mother of two. In October, my younger son, Brian, 11, was diagnosed with juvenile diabetes. We spent four days at Children's Hospital Boston, and after being discharged, Virginia Rich, RN, was assigned to be our nurse practitioner/diabetes educator. I want you to know how incredibly fortunate we feel to have her as our nurse.
Since day one, she had such a positive, cheerful attitude and was so supportive. She's taught us so much and has held our hands when we needed it. I know this is her job, but she goes beyond that. I want you—and her—to know how much we appreciate all she has done and will continue to do as she shares Brian's life-long challenge with diabetes.
Finding out Brian's diagnosis was overwhelming, but Rich made things like learning how to use the insulin pump a smooth transition. She was very professional but caring and always down to earth. Brian thinks highly of her and feels so comfortable with her. I believe she has made such a positive impact on him that it will set the stage for him to live a longer, healthier life.
