Employee of the month

Jack Connolly

Congratulations to Jack Connolly, applications support specialist in Children’s Hospital Boston’s Neurology-EEG programs, who’s been selected as June’s Employee of the Month.

Children’s neurophysiology and sleep laboratories are technology-intensive areas that rely on precise data collection and complex hardware and software. So the scope of Connolly’s job—to maintain and troubleshoot their systems—is huge. But he remains calm and smiling under the constant demands. "It’s hard to imagine a more valued, caring, compassionate, thoughtful and respectful person than Jack," says a coworker. "He manages to make people feel that calling him was the best thing they could have done, and it is."

Connolly is on-call around the clock, and people need his help every day, even when he’s on vacation. Physicians call during the day and sleep technologists at night, asking him to "accomplish the seemingly impossible," like fixing quirks in the systems, repairing software from afar, retrieving data and solving countless other problems simply by "being a computer wizard." No matter what time it is, Connolly addresses problems with a never-ending supply of patience. "He’s omnipresent," says a colleague. "He’s there whenever you need him with expertise, know-how and a can-do attitude."

In his more than 10 years at Children’s, Connolly has developed a reputation as the go-to guy when someone is faced with a technical equipment emergency. According to one nominator, "He’s the colleague you want on your team when things are going poorly, and the best person to be with to celebrate the rewards."
