10-year plan enters second phase

A Children's Hospital Boston multi-disciplinary team, led by Sandra Fenwick, chief operating officer, has taken the next step in the Time to be Bold long-term planning campaign, which looks 10 to 15 years ahead to project what Children's should be like in the future. During the first phase of the strategic plan, the team studied how our four major mission areas (clinical care, research, teaching, community outreach) will continue to be strengthened, advanced and integrated going forward and reaffirmed Children's vision: to be the worldwide leader in pediatric health care. The team also developed a framework for the Time to be Bold plan and came up with strategic goals.

Now, they've taken the next step by coming up with several action items to be completed around each of the hospital's strategic goals. "We're entering an exciting second phase," Fenwick says. "Our list of goals is big, broad and deep and involves people across the entire institution."

As the plan becomes crystallized, Fenwick will make sure that each department—and each employee—can see how they'll fit into the long-term plan. "As we make sure we're strategically aligned, we want everyone to see where their efforts fit in and how much they can contribute and make a difference."
