William Beardslee, MD, Psychiatry
William Beardslee, MD, academic chairman of the Department of Psychiatry, began his distinguished career at Children's Hospital Boston in 1974 as a resident in Child Psychiatry. He stayed on to do a research fellowship and his scientific endeavors since that time have been devoted to the prevention of depression in families. Bill became the clinical director of the Department of Psychiatry in 1982 and was Psychiatrist-in-chief from 1995 to 2004. He currently focuses his efforts on community programs and child advocacy, with a primary goal of translating his research in prevention to real-world settings.
Bill is a deeply committed scientist, clinician and preventionist who has been a very strong and important advocate on behalf of vulnerable children and their families. His compassion and generosity have characterized his long and distinguished career at Children's. As he celebrates 30 years here, all of us in Psychiatry congratulate Bill and thank him for his dedication.
