Celebrating Social Work

Children's Hospital Boston's social workers and resource specialists celebrated Social Work Month at a breakfast on March 14. The event highlighted the important roles that social workers fill as members of the health care team in delivering health, mental health and human services and improving outcomes for children. Featured speaker Betty Ruth, MSW, MPH, gave a talk titled "Public Health Social Work: Vision, Practice and Leadership for the 21st Century."

On March 28, the department unveiled 11 innovative new projects, including a housing advocacy project, a Web-based resource guide, Sickle Cell Family Education Day, a Young Father's Group, a Spanish-speaking Parent Support Group and a parent bereavement group. Lastly, on March 27, Children's chief inpatient social worker, Dawn Belkin-Martinez, LICSW, presented the Social Work Month Grand Rounds at Brigham and Women's Hospital and spoke on the topic "Libertarian Health: the Time is Now."
