Gaming at Children's
Sixth-grader Ryan Mooney recently made a unique donation to Children's Hospital Boston: Nintendo Games Boys and games. Ryan became interested in collecting the Game Boys when he learned how nervous kids often get before operations, and his father, David Mooney, MD, director of Children's Trauma Program, told him about a research study showing that Game Boys worked well to relieve the anxiety. Ryan worked with his principal at Wellesley Middle School to gain permission to send a note around to all parents and put a box in the school office for donations. After only one month, Ryan was able to collect 32 used Game Boys with more than 55 games, which he scrubbed and tested before bringing them to Children's this month.
