On March 5, senators Edward Kennedy and John Kerry teamed up with Mayor Thomas Menino and Children's Hospital Boston's James Mandell, MD, president and CEO, to advocate for more federal funding for children's health care coverage.
Volunteers give a total of 60,000 hours to Children's each year, providing a multitude of services in support of patient care and hospital operations. B. Christopher Sumner has joined the Office of Child Advocacy team as director of Community Outreach. In this new role, Sumner will build relationships with community organizations and other key partners in the city that help improve the lives of Boston's children and families.
Child Life Week was the week of March 12. One of the main events was the annual Puppy Pre-Op held in the Patient Entertainment Center, where hundreds of children took a stuffed puppy through a typical hospital experience.
With their ship making its final trip to Boston, crew members of the USS John F. Kennedy aircraft carrier visited Children's Hospital Boston to take photos and give navy hats to patients.
