Dear Ms. Powers-Perry,
I would like to thank you for sending us the SonneWheels for calculating body mass index (BMI). We now have SonneWheels in all of our exam rooms. I'm a partner in an 11 practitioner pediatric practice on the Connecticut shoreline and, like most practices, have been working toward combating childhood obesity in our patients. We feel that using the BMI is very important both as a measuring tool, as well as a way to educate our patients and their families about maintaining a healthy body, but we have found typical BMI wheels to be cumbersome and time-consuming.
Our practice is quite busy (we care for around 12,000 patients), so the time we're able to save by using the SonneWheel allows us to spend more time interacting with and counseling our patients. Our goal is to have BMIs calculated and charted on all patients 2 years old and up at every physical exam. In the short time we've been using the SonneWheel, our measurement of BMIs has increased dramatically. I have found it much easier to integrate the BMI into my routine physicals and have been able to show parents in a concrete fashion how creating a healthier lifestyle at home can have an impact on their children's health. Once again, we would like to thank you for your generous contribution.
Sincerely,
Pamela Murtagh, MD
