Congratulations to Frank Rossi, supervisor of Lab Support in Children’s Hospital Boston’s Vascular Biology Program, who’s been selected as March’s Employee of the Month.
Rossi’s career assisting Children’s investigators spans an impressive 31 years, beginning with his work with the late Judah Folkman, MD. Today, the Vascular Biology Program has more than 100 people, and Rossi deals with most of them, maintaining the same dedication and accuracy he had decades ago.
Rossi makes sure the researchers have everything they need, from clean lab equipment for an experiment to an extra table in the conference room for an important meeting. “When Frank tackles a job, he does it completely,” says a colleague. Researchers appreciate how Rossi takes responsibility for keeping the lab—and everyone in it—organized, even if that means adding to his own workload to alleviate others’ schedules.
After all these years, Rossi knows the ins and outs of the department so well that researchers often turn to him if they have questions about how tasks can be best accomplished, like preparing glassware or growing bacterial cultures. He even co-hosts weekly work-in-progress meetings to make sure the researchers have everything they need. Soft-spoken and gentle, three nominators mentioned how kind Rossi is: His supporters were so enthusiastic they hand-delivered his nomination to Human Resources to ensure it got there. As one of them wrote, “He’s a treasured friend and colleague who we are proud and lucky to have among us.” |
