Celebrating, fundraising and more!

Staff and employees gathered in the Enders Auditorium on Thursday, Jan. 12, to honor Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. This year's event focused on literacy, featuring a keynote address by Rev. Jeffrey Lamont Brown of Union Baptist Church, and performances by musical guests D. Anton Bland and Min. Tracey Gibbs. Children's Hospital Boston's 2006 Black Achievers Frantz Antoine of Environmental Services, and Malissa Williams of Nutrition/Food Services (pictured above), were also recognized.

Lace up your walking shoes on Sunday, June 11, 2006, for the 4th Annual Miles for Miracles pledge walk benefiting Children's. Register for the 7- or 2-mile walk by visiting www.childrenshospital.org/walk.

New this month! Put on your lab coat and enter Children's Virtual Stem Cell Laboratory. The Web-based lab presents a computer-generated model of embryonic stem cells. By adding "factors" to the dividing cells, you can cause them to differentiate into more specialized stem cells and then into fully developed cells, including red blood cells, motor neurons and heart cells. What do turkeys, snowmen and American flags all have in common? They're all paper cutouts that Wal-Mart cashier Mary Harlow has been selling for $1 each to raise money for Children's. Mary has raised $25,000 since 1998, as part of a Children's Miracle Network fundraiser. Next time you shop at Wal-Mart, look for Mary and other kind Wal-Mart employees who are working to improve child health.
