Watch us grow

Children's Hospital Boston is hoping to expand in two ways: up and out. Children's Brookline Place, a proposed development of approximately 230,000 square feet, has officially begun the special permit application process in the town of Brookline. Presentations have been made in various public meetings and at the Brookline Planning Board, and while it's still in schematic design, the project would have about 20,000 square feet of first floor retail space, a 625-car underground garage and the remainder of the eight-story building evenly divided between medical office and administrative space for the hospital.¬ƯAn occupancy date of 2011 is tentatively planned.

Also, in late December, Children's filed a building permit application to allow for the construction of a two-story addition (a new 11th and 12th floor and mechanical penthouse) on top of our existing Berthiaume Family building. This 80,000 square foot addition would add critical care inpatient beds and tie directly into the 11th floor of Berthiaume South. The project is contingent upon approval of the hospital's Institutional Master Plan, which was submitted for the next round of city approvals in January. If approved and constructed, the projected completion date is late 2010.
