Children's Hospital Boston was abuzz with activity last month, playing host to many celebratory holiday events—two of which were the Season of Hope Tree Lighting and the employee Holiday Party.
Taking place on December 2, the annual Tree Lighting brought a bustling crowd of patients, families and employees. Following a welcome and introduction by Children's President and CEO James Mandell, MD, and Chief Operating Officer Sandra Fenwick, attendees enjoyed cookies, eggnog, apple cider and fresh fruit, while listening to holiday songs performed by the Boston Children's Chorus.
Then on December 15, the Children's Cafe was transformed into a Victorian toy store with giant teddy bears, candy canes and ice sculptures for the Holiday Party. Hungry employees lined up for a delectable spread of butternut squash ravioli, roast beef, stuffed chicken breasts and much more prepared by the Food Service team.
Also in December, the WBZ-Children's Hospital Boston Telethon hit the airways, raising $3.2 million for the WBZ-Children's Hospital Fund, which helps advance pediatric care, research, training and community service. Aired on UPN 38 and WBZ NewsRadio, the fun-filled evening included inspiring patient stories, an auction sponsored by American Airlines and visits by members of the New England Patriots. Special thanks to media sponsors CBS 4, UPN 38 and WBZ NewsRadio.
