Developmental Hip Conditions

Developmental hip conditions such as hip dysplasia, Legg-Calve-Perthes disease, and slipped capital femoral epiphysis can lead to premature arthritis in young adults with resultant pain and disability.
Our research efforts focus on understanding the pathomechanics of these conditions using advanced imaging such as MRI. We believe that with better understanding we can improve patient selection to better apply and improve existing therapies, and to also develop new therapies for these conditions.
Recent and current studies include:
  • Long Term Outcome after Periacetabular Osteotomy for Hip Dysplasia
  • Application of Delayed Gadolinium Enhanced MRI of Cartilage (dGEMRIC) to Assessing Early Osteoarthritis in Dysplastic Hips
  • Application of Diffusion and Perfusion MRI to Assess Early Pertes Disease
  • Perfusion MRI as a Predictor of Development of Avascular Necrosis after Closed Reduction of Dislocated Hips
