CHILDHOOD AND ADOLESCENT OSTEOPOROSIS- This study evaluates the drug, Alendronate, to determine if it will prevent or reverse the severe bone loss known as osteoporosis that develops in children receiving chronic steroid therapy for debilitating diseases involving their joints or bowels.

NEONATAL SURGICAL DATABASE- Major congenital malformations can cause serious disability and death in newborn infants. Urgent surgical care is often required soon after birth. Because many of these conditions are uncommon, pediatric surgeons may not know the best way to manage these babies. The Network is developing a database that will enable surgeons to assess and share techniques with the aim of understanding the optimal way to handle these vulnerable infants.

This study is designed to assess the quality of life of children with life limiting illnesses and to develop interventions that can improve the manner in which children and their families are comforted at life's end.

DIAPHRAGMATIC HERNIAS IN INFANTS- Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia (CHD) is a birth defect that occurs when the diaphragm does not fully form, allowing organs to enter the chest cavity and interfere with normal lung growth. This study will test an innovative treatment intended to induce lung growth and help reduce the number of death attributed to this life-threatening defect.
