Non-Invasive Markers in the Diagnosis and Interval Assessment of Children and Adults

"Non-Invasive Markers in the Diagnosis and Interval Assessment of Children and Adults with Known or Suspected Gastrointestinal Allergic Disease"

Doctors in the IBD Center are looking at the development of new tests that will help us to diagnose allergic diseases that affect the esophagus, stomach, and intestines. The purpose of this study is to measure the level of CD23 (a protein that is found in bodily secretions) in patients with allergic diseases. CD23 levels can be higher in patients with symptoms of allergy, and they appear to fall when patients are treated for their allergies. Therefore, by measuring CD23 levels in the stool or urine of patients, we may be able to help diagnose patients with allergies and find out if these patients are responding to therapy.
