Hauschka Laboratory - Bone Cell Biology
Current Opportunities/Positions Open
Stem Cell Biology and Bone
Develop protocols for enriching and expanding populations of mesenchymal stem cells (particularly osteoprogenitor cells); discover factors/conditions that predictably regulate their differentiation into bone-forming osteogenic cells; analyze the specialized osteoblast phenotype in the "niche" that supports long-term hematopoietic stem cells.
Vascular Biology
Isolate pericyte/osteoprogenitor cells from microvascular tissues; establish phenotypic marker profiles for characterization and differentiation status; analyze the regulation of cell fate.
Tumor Biology
Study the role of signaling and cell-cell interaction in the biology of metastatic breast and prostate cancer in the skeleton.
Bioengineering
Engineer implants of osteoprogenitor cells on bioresorbable scaffolds, and optimize their efficacy in bone repair sites in vivo.
